I keep returning to Derek Sivers’s life motto: Whatever scares you, go do it.
- I’m now ending each shower with a cold shower for several years, but the fear of the cold never goes away. The first 10 seconds are always scary. Sometimes I shower cold-only. It’s incredible how fast the body is able to adjust. Within just 2 minutes I’m totally fine with the cold, and actually enjoying it a lot. Until the fear returns the next day.
- I’m scared of talking to strangers on the street. At Exsila one of our challenges was to gain new users. It’s very easy to hide behind the computer and never talk to anybody when you are running an internet business. So I took our flyers and spent two afternoons in Basel and Lucerne talking to strangers and selling Exsila face-to-face. If you cannot sell your product face-to-face, how do you expect to build a website that does this job for you? We gained valuable insights that we never would have gotten otherwise.
- The great thing: Most people don’t live like this. If you do, you are a very small minority with highly increased odds of success.
